MAC Please Me

A few weeks ago I finally caved in and purchased my first two MAC lipsticks. I even blogged about my little haul in a previous post. I got my MAC babies from The Vanity Zone for a very affordable price of P895! Today I'll be reviewing my new favorite pink lipstick, MAC's Please Me.

Quick info for MAC newbies (like me), MAC lipsticks come enclosed in a sleek black tubes and contain 3g of product. I'm talking about the regular shades in their permanent line since some limited edition ones come in more "fancy" packaging at times.
It took me some time before I decided on what shade to get mainly because I was super excited at the prospect of finally purchasing my first MAC lipstick with my own cash. I wanted something classic and wearable. Instinctively I knew I wanted my second tube to be Ruby Woo but since red isn't an everyday color for me, I knew that I had to get something from the pink family for my first tube.
A lot of beauty bloggers and online sellers recommended MAC's Please Me which is described as a "muted rosey tinted pink" in a matte formulation. After looking at endless swatches online I finally decided that Please Me would be THE one to purchase first.

Love :
Sleek packaging.
Soft sweet vanilla scent that isn't irritating.
Great color payoff , lovely pigmentation!
Staying power - stayed put on my lips for up to 5 hours (with all the talking, drinking & eating I did!)
Brightens my face by adding just the right amount of "pink" color to my lips without it being too "in-your-face".
Hate :
Matte formulation can be a bit drying and when applied on lips that haven't been prepped properly, this lipstick could be a disaster.
Pricey.
Overall, I really like this shade and I'm happy that I decided to purchase it. Despite the fact it can be a bit drying, I've been reaching for my tube of Please Me almost everyday. I get a lot of compliments when I wear it since it's a break from my usual bright hot pink lippies that most of my family & friends have gotten accustomed to. Please Me is definitely a great buy and is already part of my favorites list!

What's Going On

Where do I even begin to explain? So much has happened in the past two weeks that I don't even know where to start or how to start. I've even thought about not explaining at all but I know I owe it to my readers to explain where I've been and what I'm planning to do next.

First of all, the biggest reason for my absence is the fact that I was hospitalized last week due to Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever Grade 2 with Hepatic Involvement. Where exactly I got the dengue, I really don't know. All I know is I had one helluva time confined at the hospital with my IV and medications. I was rushed to the hospital last June 14, 2013 at around 11:30pm and was admitted on June 15, 2013 at around 3 in the morning. I tell you, it's one of the worst things that has ever happened to me. Nurses shouldn't be the ones getting admitted, "diba?". But there I was, at 3 in the morning, crying like a baby after the initial dose of IV paracetamol and ketorolac (pain killer).

At first my attending physicial Dr. A. diagnosed me with Cystitis because my chief complaint was really painful urination, nausea and high grade fever. It was only after five days that I was then diagnosed with Dengue by a second physician, Dra. M. A. So there I was battling both cystitis and dengue. What could be worse? Right?
Eventually, after more than a week in the hospital, I was sent home last June 22, 2013 with a follow up check up schedule and more medication.

As I'm typing this out, it's June 27, 2013 and I only have a few days left with my lil sister and dad before they fly back to Singapore. I don't think I have to explain that I'll be blogging infrequently from this point on. I'd like to spend what little time I have left with my family.

I'll be back soon, I promise!

PS : I chopped off my hair. :)

Haulage : The Vanity Zone Edition!

Last week I finally decided to murder my wallet and purchase my first two tubes of MAC lipsticks. I've had MAC lipsticks before but they were either gifted or a prize from a giveaway. To tell you honestly, I was a bit nervous about buying my first MAC lipstick online but I'm so glad I found a reputable online shop called THE VANITY ZONE. I trust that they sell legitimate/authentic products that are worth it.

The Vanity Zone now includes a very posh calling card with every purchase. The owner, Miss Bea, is very friendly and accommodating. She made sure to answer my numerous questions about the items like she did with my past purchases.

She had a limited number of MAC lipstick shades available on hand and I'm so glad that most of the shades available were the ones I've had my eye on for such a long time now. In the end I decided to get a classic red, Ruby Woo, and an everyday pink, Please Me, that would jump start my MAC lipstick collection.

Miss Bea was even so kind enough to send this ELF HD Blush in the shade Showstopper (the only shade that I still haven't been able to get my hands on!) as a gift with my purchase. She knows that I've been looking for this shade ever since I purchased the other shades of ELF HD Blushes from her a few months back.

Gifted : China Glaze Nail Lacquers

I have a confession to make...
I used to be a nail biter! Yes, it used to be such a disgusting nail habit that I'm so glad I got over (ermmm) thanks to nail polish. I used to really use nail polish as a reminder to not bite my nails BUT once I started college classes, hospital duties and even more when I became a registered nurse, I couldn't use nail polish anymore because of the "rules". *sad panda face*

Needless to say, nail polish has never been one of the beauty products I invest in. Whenever I do purchase nail polish, it usually does not cost more than P100 because I get this "panghihinayang" feeling every time a polish dries up because I don't use it frequently.

My lil sister knows that even if I want to, I would never splurge on something like nail polish so she went ahead and gifted me my first few bottles of China Glaze nail lacquers! I've heard so many good things about China Glaze and have been wanting to try them out but my wallet never agreed to the urge. I was super delighted when she gave me these polishes as part of my late birthday gift when she came home from Singapore yesterday.

What : China Glaze Nail Lacquers
L-R : 625 For Audrey, 1025 Liquid Crystal, 955 Sunset Sail
Price : $20 for 3 or $8/each
 photo IMG_7200_zps78b9f98e.jpg photo IMG_7201_zps3d853749.jpg
For Audrey is definitely my ultimate favorite out of the three that my lil sister gave me. It's a very fun and bright spring-summer shade and I feel that this shade is totally going to be used and loved by me!
 photo IMG_7202_zps9c00a82a.jpg
Liquid Crystal is a glitter fanatics' nail lacquer of choice. I'm also very fond of glittery and sparkly nail polishes. Thinking about doing galaxy nails with this polish.
 photo IMG_7203_zps0e9cabec.jpg
Every girl should have at least one nude polish and I feel that Sunset Sail will be my new favorite nude.

I'll be doing a swatch & review post on each shade soon...
Before I end this post, I'd like to share the song I LOVE IT By Icona Pop. I'm totally obsessed with it!
PS : Notice the improvement in the quality of my photos? *wink* I got my powershot back!

Location : Lantaka Hotel by the Sea, Zamboanga City
Last month I was contacted by the lovely Angelea "Lea" Godinez to be her hair & makeup artist for a very sexy-classy shoot. We took inspiration from different Rogue magazine sets. Lea has very lovely facial features so I played around those. I kept her makeup very light and fresh with lovely arched brows and pink-hot pink lips. As for hair, we decided on volumized curled hair for that soft bouncy look that perfectly complimented the whole look.

Hello my dearest readers!
It's finally June and that means that summer's over (for most) and summer's starting (for my family!).
I know I haven't been updating my blog much but most of my time (and energy) is reserved for work. Anyway, I've decided to do a weekly "My Life Thru Instagram" with the help of this photo challenge that I found on Instagram.
I'll be posting a collage of all the photos I took for this challenge at the end of every week.
Feel free to follow me on Instagram as well to take a peek at my crazy life.
